To make these Stake Signs we use PRIME EUROPEAN OAK and MARINE GRADE RESIN. In other words, the best quality timber for external use and the most suitable resin for outdoor purposes.
MAKING AN OAK STAKE SIGN
First step is to cut the timber to size. Next we prepare the oak by chamfering the edges and sanding the timber. We then move on to the engraving process. Whilst this is done by machine it takes several passes to complete the process, so as to ensure the timber does not spelch. Once the oak has been engraved we move on to filling the engraved text with marine grade resin. The resin is built up in several layers to ensure an even fill. The final stage is to treat the timber, to ensure it is weatherproof. It has 2 coats of OSMO WR Base Coat followed by 3 coats of OSMO UV Protection Oil. If you prefer your Oak to be left untreated please let us know by adding a NOTE at checkout stage
We send all items via Royal Mail or Parcelforce using a Signed For service. Shipping costs are determined by the size and weight of the item ordered, however you can choose whether the item is shipped first or second class. Shipping costs for multiple items on the same order will therefore be determined by the total weight and size of the packaging required to ship.
INSTALLING YOUR STAKE SIGN
When installing your stake sign it is important to ensure the ground is suitable to hold and maintain the sign. Depending on the type of soil you are setting into will determine whether you choose to set the stake with concrete to ensure stability. If you are setting into clay soil perhaps, the need for concrete may not be necessary. Some clients choose to cover the below ground section with a membrane, however this is not imperative. Please seek professional advice if you are unsure about how to properly install your stake sign.
CARING FOR YOUR STAKE SIGN
Being a natural material and exposed to the elements, you should expect that the OAK will silver down (weather) over time. Exposure to water reacts with the natural tannins which causes blackening and exposure to UV rays turns the oak a silvery hue. The two elements combined effect what is referred to as silvering down. Weathering of the OAK is a natural process and whilst it cannot be prevented, it is possible to slow the weathering process by retreating your sign.
We recommend that you retreat the OAK twice yearly, preferably before the start of the winter and summer seasons. There is no harm in retreating it more than twice yearly, if for example it is sited in a prevailing position and subject to high levels of wind, rain or sun.
Please be sure when ordering this sign that you are aware of how time will affect the OAK.
Wherever possible we use paper or cardboard packaging. Of course we have a duty to do our bit for the environment, whilst at the same time ensuring our products arrive undamaged. Where we find it necessary to use alternative packaging, all of it can be recycled so please do your bit too.
All measurements are approximate. Even though we take every care to make each item to the dimensions specified, slight variations are possible and should be anticipated.
