The slate comes from the quarries in North Wales
MAKING A SLATE & OAK CLOCK
We individually make every Clock to order. Our first step is to prepare the oak, which involves cutting, planing, drilling, routing and sanding the timber. After that, we prepare the key hole, which is used for wall mounting the clock. The next step is to cut and clean the slate in preparation for the engraving process. Once the Slate has been engraved we move on to wax the oak. We use clear wax as it does not change the appearance of the oak, it merely acts as a protective barrier from absorbing natural oils in the skin. If you prefer either dark brown or black wax, please let us know by adding a NOTE at checkout stage.
When the oak has been waxed we then fix the slate in place and fit the mechanism and choice of hands. Since we don’t make the mechanisms and hands, each fully assembled clock is tested for a minimum of 24 hours before being despatched.
All clocks are boxed before being packaged for despatch. Wherever possible we use paper or cardboard packaging. Of course we have a duty to do our bit for the environment, whilst at the same time ensuring our products arrive undamaged. Because it is sometimes necessary to use alternative packaging, all of it can be recycled so please do your bit too.

CARING FOR YOUR SLATE & OAK CLOCK
Most importantly avoid positioning the clock close to a direct heat source, for instance on top of a wood burning stove. Equally important, do not place it close to a water source. An occasional dry dusting should be all that is required. To dust the clock face we recommend using a small brush, being especially careful not to catch the hands. Batteries fit tightly into the mechanisms. Therefore, we advise wrapping a small piece of ribbon or paper around the battery before it is inserted. As a result, it’s easier to remove the battery when it needs changing.
All measurements are approximate. Whilst we take every care to make each item to the dimensions specified, a few mm difference is possible, therefore a slight variance should be anticipated. These clocks are designed for indoor use only.
